SGI Modular InfiniteStorage JBOD (SGI MIS JBOD) is a high-density expansion storage platform, designed for maximum flexibility and the ability to be tuned to specific customer requirements. SGI MIS JBOD shares the same innovative design with SGI MIS Server, which includes a unique drive packaging architecture that enables two 2.5" drives to be deployed within the same displacement of a single 3.5" slot. In this way, each SGI MIS JBOD 4U chassis can be configured with up to 81 3.5" SAS or SATA drives or 162 2.5" SAS or SSD drives. This enables SGI MIS JBOD to have up to 243TB in 4U.

When combined with SGI's 19" D-Rack, or other standard rack, up to 2.43PB of disk capacity can be supplied within a single 19" rack footprint. This density enables IT organizations to reclaim valuable floor space and reduce power and cooling costs.

SGI MIS JBOD is designed for resiliency, using hot-pluggable and redundant components such as fans and power supplies. Through an innovative rail design, the chassis can be accessed from the front or rear, enabling drives and other components to be non-disruptively replaced.

This simple feature not only makes the system much easier to service, but it significantly reduces the strain on cables and connectors that is a frequent source of fragility in other large systems that require heavy trays to be pulled out entirely to access individual components.
